Point.Line.Plane

When thinking of objects that act as lines in my daily life the first thing that came to my mind was the lane lines in the pool. These lane lines have different circular sections that are strung together and go down the length of the pool. Since a “line is the connection between two points, or it is the path of a moving point” (Lupton & Phillips 36), I think that the lane line featured in these images very clearly illustrates this artistic concept. In one of the images you can also see the line at the bottom of the pool which is used for swimmers to orient themselves with their position in the lane and is also an example of a line. These lines are both made of many different individual points and therefore “a series of points forms a line” (Lupton & Phillips 34). In this case the plane would be the surface the water.

I also tried to illustrate many different perspectives of this lane line by taking pictures from different sides and from above. In order to gain a better understanding of spacial translation I looked at and photographed the lane line “from multiple points of view, including different vantage points” (Lupton & Phillips 44). This adds more depth within the sequence of images.
